The Drepung Monks are returning to Boulder!
Hosted by the Boulder Mountain Lodge and Hell’s Backbone Grill
Boulder Mountain Lodge and Hell’s Backbone Grill are co-hosting these incredible monks as they teach, perform, play and inspire! Please join us! Being with the monks is fun, uplifting and joyous! There will be many opportunities to spend time with them and events to attend.
Welcome Reception at Hell’s Backbone Grill
The monks will arrive in Boulder in the afternoon of August 13th, and we'll be hosting a welcome reception for them. We'll serve butter tea and desi (the traditional auspicious saffron and goji berry sweet rice). Blake will provide offering scarves for anyone who wants one. All are invited to attend!
The monks are staying here as guests of the lodge through the morning of the August 19th. There will be two events and lots of opportunities for interaction and shared meals.
On Friday, August 14th, at 11 a.m. The lamas begin the work of drawing an outline of the Medicine Buddha Sand Mandala for health and living.
Opening the Heart: Arousing the Mind of Universal Kindness
Also on Friday, August 14th, at 4 p.m. the spiritual leader of the group will give a one-hour talk, Opening the Heart: Arousing the Mind of Universal Kindness, followed by a question and answer session.
Closing Ceremony and Dispersal of Sand
On Tuesday, August 18th, at 6 p.m. the monks will begin their closing ceremony. Traditionally most sand mandalas are deconstructed shortly after their completion. This is done as a metaphor of the impermanence of life.
*A donation of $15 for each event is recommended. The monks will also be selling traditional jewelry, prayer flags, etc. All proceeds & donations go to support their monastery in India.
For any questions regarding the monks stay or to request a special blessing, please contact Oyuki Cortez at Hell’s Backbone Grill (435) 335-7464 or email@example.com.
